Anna Kolosova
Artist in Residence
October 1 — October 22, 2023
Anna Kolosova is a contemporary artist, living and working in London, UK. Her practice is painting in an ‘expanded field’, experimenting with materials, dimensions and life itself. Anna has synaesthesia, so she paints sound, smells, numbers and text as 'seen' in colour. During her Synesthetic Action Painting performances, she explores that by directly responding to sound or smell, depicting the visions live in front of the audience, bridging the sensory gap for the voyeurs to enjoy her own private multi-sensory experience and reach sensual meditative states.
Anna launched The Old Bailey Gallery as the inaugural artist-in-residence in October 2023. The paintings in her solo exhibition were created on site, in response to her new environment as a first time visitor to Birmingham (and the American South). Her opening reception included a Synesthetic Action Painting performance in front of a live audience.

Anna Kolosova is a contemporary artist, living and working in London, UK.
Her practice is painting in an ‘expanded field’, experimenting with materials, dimensions and life itself. She makes abstract, mixed-media, performative in nature works with elements of text and found images or objects. Anna gravitates towards the urban styles but mixes those with the classical notions of painting, such as the Golden Ratio. She keeps her sketchbooks in her purse always to be able to sketch what she gets inspired by in situ, gathering momentum. Some of those sketches are a starting point to the journey into the larger works.
